The annual count down is on – one week until Christmas. You think you’re prepared, but have you taken care of the lawn. Before the family descends and the kids begin to run around there are a few issues that should be attended to.
Dethatch.
Now is the perfect time to dethatch your lawn and get rid of all that spongy underlay, before numerous people, pets and traffic cause more compaction to the lawn. More information on how to dethatch your lawn can be found here.
Fertilise.
After dethatching, you should fertilise your lawn to give it a boost after the stress it has just suffered.
Mowing.
Ideally, you would like to mow the day before your guests arrive to give the lawn a little recovery time before being walked, run and played on. Using the catcher is recommended if an after lunch cricket game is in order or you have allergy sufferers attending.
Watering.
A deep watering the day before entertaining is recommended – this will ensure that your lawn will be alright if it doesn’t rain and you are otherwise engaged for a few days. Completing this the day before will allow the moisture to soak deep into the soil and not leave any muddy puddles for guests to walk through the house.
Weeding.
With only one week left until Christmas, if you are intending to apply any herbicides to any weeds it should be completed as soon as possible, to allow time for the weeds to die.
On behalf of the entire team at Daleys Turf, we wish you and your family a very safe and joyous Christmas and New Year. We will be enjoying our lawns and taking a break after a busy year and we hope you get to do the same.
